Sedimentary basin edges can be sharp enough to cause seismic wave diffraction, refraction, and reflection that enhance ground motions amplitudes and extend their duration, thus increasing seismic hazard. The Seattle Basin is known to amplify seismic waves. The Seattle Fault borders the basin and has been related to the excitation of surface higher modes in the basin. This experiment aims to image the Seattle Fault, the structure around it, in order to better constrain seismic wave propagation at and along its edge. This will be a collaboration with U Washington, USGS Seattle, Harvard University, and possibly University of Oregon. We are flexible in schedule, but would prefer to collect data mid 2019. PI Denolle (Harvard University) will bring 10 broadbands. PN seismic network also committed to provide broadbands. PI Denolle will use internal funds to support the experiment.
